  • CoD Modern Warfare 2

Anyone bought this yet? Am waiting for one of my local Sainsburys to get it back in stock, looks like they're selling it for £26 for the 360 and PS3.

Sad to see what happened with the PC version though, hope for the sake of the GSPs on here it doesn't represent a trend - although Carmack came out the other day saying now MW2 has broken the dedicated server trend they can start looking at doing the same.

Think it's going to be another busy Christmas though - Assassins Creed 2, Super Mario Bros Wii, Left 4 Dead 2 - still haven't finished the stack I bought last year.

Arrived this morning from play.com at £ 45 but not got onto it yet.

Like a numpty I didn't realise people would be doing it for half the price, but had a look around the shops today and it's either £ 45 or sold-out (Sainsburys too).

I know what I'm doing with my evening/day off tomorrow now though

Play always used to be good, but these days they only seem to be knocking a little bit off the price to stay competitive - think it was the same price as Game, although IIRC Amazon said they had it in stock for £32 this morning.

Sainsburys often seem to have a good deal on the week of a big new release; they must sell it at a loss, they limit to 1 per customer, then I think they purposely keep stock low so they sell out quickly. While you're there you may as well get some milk etc... I'll be spreading out the weekly shop and popping into both the local ones a couple of times this week - although would probably waste more money on petrol, so will drive my girlfriend's car

Seems to be worth shopping around though - last year I bought new-release titles for £25-35/game, and with some back catalogue titles it averaged to closer £20/game. Could argue in the time it takes you to find the bargain you could have earned more working, but I have no paying work on at the moment anyway, and gaming isn't a particularly productive past-time to begin with

Run through it today (took the day off, yes I know). Totally blows MW1 out of the water and its just a lot more intense. Special ops are lots of fun.

I was at Sainsburys this morning at 7:30am, but not for CoD, I planned to get a bit of quiet early morning shopping in, but the queues of people buying COD ruined my plan :emote_twa

Yup its *very* intense, action all over the screen and loads of it - not many places to hide to reload which is a bugger as they've drastically increased the weapon swap time to make it more realistic!

Is this as good on the PC as it is the consoles?

Is that not likely to depend whether you've spent the cost of a console on a graphics card with 4 fans and 2 extra power connectors?

From what I've heard, it's the same. Only with the benefit of a mouse and keyboard, of course.

Having said that, worth reading: PC Modern Warfare 2: it's much worse than you thought - Ars Technica:

We thought the lack of dedicated servers was bad, but now we can add the lack of console commands, the inability to have a say in who hosts the game, a lengthy pause while the game migrates to a new host if the currently selected host quits, no leaning, no option to record matches, and no way to kick or block trouble players, hackers, or cheaters.

You have to wonder if there are any actual PC gamers working at Infinity Ward, as it will be a challenge to find any member of the PC gaming community that will stand up for any of these omissions, not to mention all of them bundled together. At launch, this will be one of the most locked-down, inflexible, and gamer-unfriendly game ever created.
Sad but not entirely surprising, and seems to be the way things are heading: The Cut Scene - Video Game Blog by Variety on Variety.com

I miss PC gaming, but it just worked out too expensive to justify keeping my PC up to spec to play the latest games - should be working anyway.
