  • Difference between White Hat and Black Hat SEO

I was planning to do the SEO of my website when I came across the term White Hat and Black Hat SEO and also Grey Hat SEO. What exactly is the difference between them and which should be followed to yield good and better results

  • #2
The main difference when you are using black hat techniques you will get higher in Google Search but chances of getting hit is too damn high but while you practice white hat techniques chances of hit is too low.

I think you will find one wears a Black Fedora while at work and the other a White Homburg.

It's mostly down to personal preference; some people think black hats look smarter with a suit, but others like the pimp vibe that comes with wearing a white hat. But both views are irrelevant: nothing makes SEO look good.

Black hat SEO refers to techniques and strategies used to get higher search rankings, and breaking search engine rules. Black hat SEO focuses on only search engines and not so much a human audience. Black hat SEO is typically used by those who are looking for a quick return on their site, rather than a long-term investment on their site. Some techniques used in black hat SEO include: keyword stuffing, link farming, hidden texts and links, and blog content spamming. Consequences of black hat SEO can possibly result in your site being banned from a search engine and de-indexed as a penalization for using unethical techniques.
White hat SEO refers to the use of techniques and strategies that target a human audience opposed to a search engine. Techniques that are typically used in white hat SEO include using keywords, and keyword analysis, doing research, rewriting meta tags in order for them to be more relevant, backlinking, link building as well as writing content for human readers. Those who use white hat SEO expect to make a long-term investment on their website, as the results last a long time.

Congratulations! Thanks to the wonders of WHC's excellent googlejuice, any searches for leasedlayer.com will now and forever more be linked with spamming stolen content onto pointless dead threads in a feeble and futile attempt to boost your own search engine rankings.

Decent reputable hosting companies don't need to resort to such underhand tactics. Not only have you shown that you have no respect for copyright law, but you have also proven that you treat the rules of communities like ours with contempt. Your irrevocable actions here speak volumes about how you do business, and will serve as a warning to future customers.

A little late to the party, but I'll try and answer. SEO isn't my area of expertise though, so if I've got anything wrong anyone else can feel free to put me right!

Search engines want to give the best results possible to their users. Competition is surprisingly fierce, which is why they are constantly updating their algorithms. Nobody knows exactly how they rank websites, but we have a very good idea. Guidelines from Google themselves basically say that in order to improve your ranking, you should focus on providing the best experience for any potential visitors. White hat SEO is basically doing it the way the search engines want you to, black hat SEO is "cheating" the system for all intents and purposes. Here's an example:

When someone links to your website, for example in a blog article, it can be seen as vote of confidence - if someone is linking to your website, it must be good right? These backlinks can help improve your search ranking. Getting good backlinks to your site is white hat SEO, but obviously takes a lot of work as you have to actually get those natural backlinks.

The blackhat way of doing it would be to pay someone to add a link to your website from hundreds of low quality websites. Once upon a time this worked wonders as Google didn't actually look at where the link was coming from, it treated all links the same. What this meant was that you could make a very low quality website, then pay for loads of links to get it to the front page of Google. This is bad for Google, because a low quality website is ranked well, which is bad for Google users.

Google got smart to this and updated their algorithm to punish websites that had used the blackhat technique, and a lot of websites dropped of the rankings overnight. So there's the difference - black hat techniques might work for a while and yield very quick results, but you run the risk of losing your rank altogether when there is an algorithm update.

You're better off putting in the work and adhering to Google's guidelines in my opinion, although it is admittedly harder to compete with the big boys who have the time and money to invest, but that's the case with blackhat to to be fair.

                        HI,
Understand it in very simple term. Black hat seo is like offence, and you will be punished if found guilty in terms of drop in traffic or completely removed from the database of the search engines.

White hat is a sweet and time taking way of showing your content to the rest of the world. It is appreciated by the search engines as well.

The difference is simple...White hat method is doing all the good things on the net to rank your site on google and be in the good books of google. Blackhat on the other hand is implementing unethical methods to rank quickly on google.

The simple difference between both is black hat seo means negative SEO, and white hat means Positive SEO,
Mostly SEO done with white hat, without any spamming your website.
